Central Marin police investigate attempted bank robbery at Safeway

Published Wednesday March 1

Central Marin police are seeking a bandit who struck a Corte Madera bank Tue morning.

Police were called just before 11:30 in the morning to the 1st Community Bank inside Safeway at Town Center Corte Madera, west of Hwy 101. The suspect, who wore a boonie-style, wide-brimmed hat, handed a demand note to a teller, remarked Central Marin police Sergeant Robert French.

The man exited Safeway, at 137 Corte Madera Town Center, and fled the mall parking lot north in a red Toyota sedan. He did not display a weapon. Police declined to disclose whether the suspect took any money.

A countywide roadblock was set up but the suspect was not located.
