Marin Parkinson’s patients get relief in pilot study

Published Sunday February 12

Soon after Greenbrae resident Ron Berg was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 7 years ago, he discovered an exercise regimen he says saved him.

“You learn to have control over disease,” he remarked of the program, called OhioHealth Delay the Disease. “Parkinson’s doesn’t control you.”

Over the past 2 years, Berg, now 72, has been participating in a pilot study in which researchers use brain imaging techniques to compare levels of depression, cognition and balance in Parkinson’s patients, to those without the disease. The study is a collaboration between researchers at the University of Ca. San Francisco, and the workout program’s founders.

“I feel measurably better,” he said.
